Bike of the Month Archives

  • BH Prisma

This Month's Bike of the Month is the Prisma from BH. It takes the handling chracteristics of the G5 but adds standover height with a sloping top tube and increases the headtube height a bit to make the bike more comfortable for endurance riding, Gran Fondos, or the Tuesday night world championships. It's built for comfort and speed. BH knows a thing or two about making bikes after doing it for over a hundred years so come check it out. This one is a 56cm with the Ultegra build for $3649.

  • Niner S.I.R. 9

The S.I.R. 9 from Niner bikes reminds us that, indeed, steel is real. It's frame is made from Reynolds 853 tubing that is simaltaneously beautiful-riding and incredibly strong. Featuring Niner's Bio-centric EBB for chain tensioning this bike can run geared and racey or, grow out your beard and run it singlespeed. As with all Niners, you can choose from 4 build kits (5 if you count singlespeed): SRAM X7 or XO and Shimano XT or XTR. Niner proves it is all about choice by also offering 2 wheel options as well as fork and colour options for the frame, bar, stem and seatpost. Come check it out and see how Niner put the 9 in 29er.

  • 2012 Trek Madone 5.2

This Month's BOM is the Trek Madone 5.2. Weighing in at a svelte 16.42lbs out of the box, this bike is incredible bang for the buck. Want to race, do some Tri's or just ride fast? Then this is the bike for you. The new two-tone black paint job is very stealthy and very cool--it will keep you under the radar right up to the point you blast past other riders. The frame is Trek's feathery light 500-series carbon frame with internal cable routing, tapered headtube and the matching E2 tapered full carbon fork. The frame's BB90 botton bracket allows for a huge downtube that means every watt of your power is transfered into more speed.

Other highlights are the Ultegra components (so good you wonder why Dura Ace?), Bontrager Race Wheelset with bladed spokes, and the super-cool no-cut external seatpost. All in all the Madone 5.2 represents huge value and performance for its $3599.99 price tag.
