Trail Day, Monday May 30th

 Hi everyone

As per my original message, I've got an update on our trail day next week. It's scheduled for Monday, May 30th, starting at 6:30 pm.  We'll meet at Queen Elizabeth Park, in the parking lot near the washrooms, where the Canada Cup trail exits down the hill.  To get there, head down (south) on Queen Elizabeth Rd, off Saskatchewan Drive and pull into QE Park at the first right.

Our first Trail Day (Evening) to be hosted by the Hardcore Bike Club will be on a piece of our adopted trail in the area of the Old Timers Cabin. It will specifically be the primary singletrack trail that runs between the paved path and the river between "Skunk Hollow" and below the cabin. It has many a mud puddle that needs proper draining or filling, and some excessive braiding will also be addressed. We'll have crews assigned to do general pruning at the same time in the entire trail network around that area. If you have handheld clippers and small saws, please bring them EMBA has

We've asked the City for a half load of fill, which will be greatly appreciated.

To give you an idea of what we have achieved, the City of Edmonton Parks Branch has approved the following work:

 1)              Manual trimming of brush up to ½ meter from edge of trail.

2)              Contouring of trail to drain muddy sections.

3)              Removal of deadfall across trail (manual saws only).

4)              Filling of low lying areas with crush material.

5)              Reclaiming of unnecessary trail braids and short cuts.

6)              Rock or wood armouring to stabilize trail tread.

Absolutely no new trail construction is allowed unless specifically approved as a separate project.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone from the Monday rides out to help on Monday. This is an unprecedented opportunity that I believe is important ot take advantage of. As a club, we've ridden these trails for over 20 yrs ( well, some of us have) and never have the trails seen any maintenance.  We essentially "own" this section of trails ( East from Walterdale bridge, to Trappers Cabin), so let's make our section the best maintained section of trail in the city!  By doing so, we put pressure on the other clubs who are participating in teh "Adopt a Trail" program,  to matching us, and everybody wins!

 Cheers

Garry
