About Us

We Are Pros.

Since 1989 Hardcore Bikes has specialized in the best mountain bikes, road bikes, commuter and e-bikes. The heart of our business however is repairing and servicing bikes; we fix what the other guys can’t. 2022 is our 33rd year in business—come find out why we’ve been here that long.

Been there, done that.

Founded in 1989 by Jim Moulden, Hardcore Bikes was the original mountain bike shop in Edmonton. Offering hard-to-find specialty mountain bike parts and hand-built frames Hardcore was something different from the beginning. Started in a tiny shop in an alley that had a previous life as a sausage factory, the Shop quickly grew as mountain bikes took off in popularity. In 1992 we moved to a new (really old) building down the street and we have been here ever since. Jim retired from frame building in 2003 but the Shop still carries on the tradition of offering something different from the big stores. You can walk into Hardcore and still see the same faces that were there in the beginning. The people who work here ride and race and believe that cycling is more than a business, it is a lifestyle. Most of our customers we know by name and we treat our customers the same way we treat our friends. We do not have the big store’s budgets to advertise and instead rely on word of mouth to let people know about us. In a world of box stores, come and discover that personalized, down-to-earth service does still exist.

Most of our customers we know by name and we treat our customers the same way we treat our friends.

Barry - service manager

Barry has been part of Hardcore since 2002. His vast experience and “if we can’t fix it, it can’t be” attitude is the engine that drives our service department. His favourite type of repair? The one several other shops couldn’t get right.

Rides: Marin Pine Mountain 2, Dorrado equipped DH bikes from back in the day.

Cory - sales

Bike fitter transitioning to licensed drug dealer, always working towards N+1.

Rides: Trek Fuel EX 9.8, Trek Roscoe 7, Norco Threshold, Specialized Tarmac, Litespeed CX, Marin Nicasio Flatbar, Trek TTX, Specialized Venge

Emerson - mechanic

Emerson came to Hardcore in 2016 and immediately fit right in. Their attention to detail is second to none and they believe in doing it right or don’t do it. They are Barnett’s Bike School trained and so follow the “don’t guess, measure” philosophy.

Rides: All City Single Speed.

Kenneth - mechanic

Professional chef turned barista and bike mechanic. Because being a chef wasn’t hipster enough.

Rides: Giant Seek, Kona King Kahuna, CCM Imperial 700, Marin Fixie, Qu-Ax Mini bike, Norco Evolution Tandem.

Lisa - sales

Can't find Lisa? Check the singletrack, in town or in the mountains. In the shop she'll help you find what you need for maximum fun (or utility, if that’s your thing). Her advice: Get the bike you aspire to ride, built for the places you aspire to ride in.

Rides: Trek Top Fuel 9.8, Santa Cruz Megatower, Salsa Mukluk, Norco Ryde

Mark - manager and owner

Mark worked at Hardcore before it became Hardcore in 1989 and took over as owner at the end of 1996. Before that he got 2 degrees at University while at the same time racing bikes–neither of which ended up being his profession. However the bike thing stuck and his passion became his job.

Rides: Trek Checkpoint SL7, Ibis Hakkalugi

Nevin - mechanic

Nevin started mountain biking as a way to find a new community after aging out of team sports. Then he decided not only to switch sports but occupations. A certified technician from United Bicycle Institute, Nevin is another of our trained mechanics determined to see the job is done correctly.

Rides: 2006 Bianchi Pista, 2020 Santa Cruz Tallboy. Waiting for a Yeti, someday…

Rowan - sales

Mark’s son Rowan has been around the shop for many years (naturally) and has been a regular face on the sales floor for a decade. Rowan is happy to answer your questions about cycling and get you set up with the bike and gear that you need to have fun. Will he follow in his father’s footsteps? Only time will tell…

Rides: Trek Crockett Flat Bar Custom

Steve - sales manager

When he’s not lost in the desert or breaking another helmet in the mountains Steve does his best to get people on the right bikes.  He has been fitting people to their dream bikes for longer than he cares to admit.  While his first love is mountain biking he is happy on any bicycle - as long as carbon fiber or Columbus metal is involved.

Rides: Ibis Ripmo Custom, Trek Top Fuel 9.9, BMC Teammachine SLR01 Three, Moulden Custom Cyclocross, Ibis Hakka MX Custom ETap, Trek Boone, Trek Stache
